As many often refer to this collection of communities as ‘The Roslyns’, it is really comprised of the following towns and incorporated villages: Roslyn, Roslyn Heights, East Hills, Roslyn Harbor, Roslyn Estates, Searingtown, Flower Hill, and Greenvale. All were located within the Town of Hempstead which was originally settled in 1643 but post-revolutionary sympathies caused a split in 1784 dividing North and South. Now known as the Town of North Hempstead, these townships independently evolved into hospitable communities due primarily to the opening of the Long Island Rail Road through to Great Neck and the inauguration of steamboat service from Manhattan in 1836. Today, these suburban gems represent a melting pot of cultures and lifestyles quite similar in demographics to many of the upscale communities across the North Shore.

Roslyn
The incorporated village of Roslyn, once called Hempstead Harbor, changed to Roslyn in 1844 in order to differentiate from all the other “Hempsteads’ on Long Island. Occupying under .7 square miles, this tiny residential jewel is nestled in the hills of the North Shore’s famed Gold Coast at the tip of Hempstead Harbor bordering the edge of the Town of North Hempstead. With its assortment of stately new and magnificently restored properties, historic monuments and a vibrant Downtown, Roslyn is quite the desirable locale. Adding to the community appeal is the Bryant Library and Gerry Park – 16 acres of verdant open spaces in the heart of Roslyn Village offering year round enjoyment. Also convenient to major roadways and a quick 45 commute into Manhattan.
Unique to Roslyn is the Downtown Business District filled with quaint boutiques, an abundance of dining establishments, major regional bank, a Post Office and other consumer-friendly shops. Municipal and street parking make strolling along Old Northern Blvd a rewarding visual and aromatic experience.

Roslyn Harbor
Of all of the villages in Greater Roslyn, only the incorporated village of Roslyn Harbor offers over a mile of scenic shoreline along Hempstead Harbor. Incorporated in 1933, Roslyn Harbor is a mere 1.2 square miles of tree lined streets and wide assortment of homes reminiscent of its neighboring sister villages of Roslyn and Glen Head. Roslyn Harbor, like many other incorporated villages is an independent, locally run community with private security and Mayor and Board of Trustees. With its waterfront vantage points, Roslyn Harbor is within the North Shore of the Gold Coast and only minutes from some of the finest restaurants, shopping, beaches, marinas, and country clubs in Nassau County. Equally accessible to major roadways and public transportation, Roslyn Harbor is a short 45 minute commute into Manhattan.

Roslyn Heights
Both a hamlet and a village, Roslyn Heights is completely landlocked at 1.5 square miles residing in the eastern part of The Town of North Hempstead on the North Shore’s Gold Coast. This hamlet has its own personality and appeal with a wide variety of architectural styles and price ranges. Like many of the villages and hamlets in Greater Roslyn, this area offers easy access to major roads and public transportation into Manhattan.
In particular, one section in Roslyn Heights, Country Club comes with deed rights to the now-shuddered Roslyn Country Club. After years wrangling with the property owner about the legal issues, the town is hopeful that a new park will begin to take shape very soon. Although, Christopher Morley Park in nearby Roslyn offers residents an open air venue for year round enjoyment including swimming pools, a nine-hole golf course, athletic fields and an ice-skating rink.
While the majority of Roslyn Heights is served by the Roslyn School District, portions of the school-aged children attend East Williston or Wheatley school districts while other areas are served by the Herricks School District and Mineola School Districts.
