Historically significant, the Incorporated Village of Old Westbury was home to countless members of New York’s rich and famous, the socially elite class of the gilded age of American prosperity. It is not so different today as Old Westbury still claims its share entrepreneurs, businessmen, art collectors and celebrities. Old Westbury occupys over 8.6 square miles of some of the most pristine lands on the North Shore’s Famed Gold Coast. The vast majority of the most notable estates have been repurposed into the serene Old Westbury Gardens, Old Westbury Country Club and New York Institute of Technology. Old Westbury is also home to The Meadowbrook Polo Club, the birthplace of American Polo making it the oldest Polo Club in the Country.
Much of Old Westbury is made of 4 acre+ estates in exclusive communities. From its private winding roads, one can glimpse the borders of many expansive properties though many are behind gates and buffered by mature plantings.
While it is true that Old Westbury has been developed over the years, most of the denser population exists along the Village’s Western and Southern borders. There is no commercial district in Old Westbury but its proximity to shopping and dining is a short car ride into Wheatley Plaza or the tonier destination of Americana Manhasset.
